Flüchtlinge / Refugees

Hello,

We are a small group of thirteen-year-old boys in class 8 (U III a) at Herderschule Rendsburg. We have worked hard on the topic, in a big country like Germany with over 80 million people and almost 7 million foreigners it is difficult to say who is a real refugee and who is not.

We try to answer the questions of the Finnish group now:

  1. Our country takes about 290 000 refugees a year.
  2. In our country there are about 4.9 million refugees.
  3. They come from Turkey (mostly Kurds), Yugoslavia, Kosovo, Italy, Greece, Romania, Russia, Poland, Ghana and some other African countries.
  4. The refugees are of all ages, but most of them are between 20 and 40.
  5. They speak their own languages, some English and a little German.
  6. At our school (782 students altogether) there are 18 refugees. They come from Iran, Asia, Poland, Greece, Italy, Tunesia and Turkey.
  7. Yes, there is racism in our country and discrimination of foreigners, but not at our school. The Head boy of our students’ parliament is Turkish.

The real tragedy is with those refugees who pay a lot of money to gangs that help them cross the border illegally. Then they are left alone. If caught, most of them are sent back, only a few can stay.

That’s it, write back if you want to know more! Hope to hear you!

Who else is working on the topic? Are there any results?
